A Time to be Born

Mother Bessie Miller was born to Cleveland and Willie Miller on December 3, 1933 in Winston County, Mississippi. Her mother passed when she was 5 years old. From that time, she was raised by her uncle and aunt, William and Julia Triplett.

A Time to Build

Mother Bessie was a highly intelligent person. She graduated from Booker T. Washington School and Okolona Normal and Industrial College. In 1956 she relocated to Mt. Clemens, Michigan where she did domestic work. Mother Bessie gave birth to her one and only son, Lincoln Miller. Mother Bessie loved and cherished her family. In 1983 she returned to Noxapater, Mississippi to care for her Aunt Julia and Uncle William. Although softspoken, Mother Bessie was a big talker with a wealth of knowledge. She loved to read and write. She was a great researcher and historian, especially when it came to family history. She wrote and published a book entitled “Our Community.” Her book provided details regarding families in the Mt. Pleasant community. Bessie was well-loved by her church family, friends, and the community. She was a God-fearing woman. Mother Miller was a lifelong member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church #2 where she served as a Sunday school teacher and Church Clerk. She enjoyed attending Home Mission at church.

A Time to Cherish

Her memories will be cherished by her son, Lincoln Miller, Saginaw, Michigan; two granddaughters, Lakesha Strong and Erma Strong; two grandsons, Keithon Strong and Tony Strong, all of Toledo, Ohio; many great-grandchildren; special cousins, Earl Carter, Lillian Brown, Jannette Jones, Birdie Brown Brooks, Stan, Al, and Keith Hannah, Rowena Henson, and Alfred (Michelle) Henson; special friends, Mary Ella Shields and Christine Jernigan.

A Time to Die

After her health failed, Mother Bessie relocated to Saginaw, Michigan to live with her son who cared for her until her death. Mother Bessie departed her earthly home on December 20, 2021.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Cleveland and Willie Miller, and her aunt and uncle, William and Julia Triplett; two brothers, Sylvester and William C. Miller.
