Archie Tullos

January 6, 1936 — April 13, 2020

Archie Lee Tullos Sr. passed away, April 13, 2020 at the age of 84. He was born January 6th, 1936 in Bolivar, Mississippi to Booker T. and Minnie Tullos.

Archie was affectionately known as “Red” for the hue in his complexion. He was an avid athlete in his youth and in his senior citizen years. He excelled in both football and track in high school. At the age of 19, he became an employee of General Motors and relocated to Saginaw, Michigan. Archie was an employee of General Motors Grey Iron Foundry for more than 36 years. The highlight of his work career was being promoted to Foreman. He held that position for more than 16 years until he retired in 1991.

Archie’s life was forever changed in 1965 when he met the love of his life, Patricia Dorsey. Shortly after meeting Patricia, he drove to Cincinnati, Ohio in dramatic fashion and asked Patricia’s father for her hand in marriage. They married in November of 1965. Archie loved, honored and cared for her for more than 51 years creating a lifetime of memories and a legacy that will live on forever.

Archie made his confession of faith to the Lord in 1989 at Christ Deliverance Ministries. He was a dedicated husband, brother, friend and father to seven children, Archie Joel Tullos, Betty Ann Fisher-Tullos, Charles Tullos, Billie Ruth Halmon-Tullos, Roger Tullos, Archie Lee Tullos Jr. and Torri Tullos. Archie was an athlete well into his senior years. He absolutely loved to run and when he was no longer able to run, he took up cycling. He had a level of mental strength that helped him overcome many obstacles in his life and strive for excellence in all that he put his hands to. He was a competitor. He never met a challenge he didn’t feel he could overcome. He had a strong work ethic that he passed down to his children.

Archie was a strong believer in all his children working. I’m sure all his children have a funny story about dad telling them to get a job at one point or another in their lives. His goal was to raise strong, self-sufficient children. He was loyal to the core. He sacrificed and gave all he could to his family. He was honorable, dependable and respected. Dad was cut from the cloth of men that did what they said they were going to do. He never met a stranger. He loved to talk and share with everyone he met. There was nothing he wouldn’t do for you.

Archie loved all his grand, great grand and great-great grandchildren. He was that old school grandfather that would shower you with gifts and fill you up with sugar and send you back home. Archie loved to travel with his brothers. They would drive across the country creating memories and hilarious stories together. Archie will forever be remembered for his willingness to give of himself and not seek anything in return. He was a servant of the Lord. He served his family, friends and his community with the utmost love, concern and respect. He was wonderful. He was loved, and he will surely be missed.

Archie leaves to cherish his memory his sons and daughter, Archie Joel (Kimberly) Tullos, Los Angeles, California, Charles (Shelly) Tullos, Saginaw, Michigan, Roger (Karen) Tullos, Grand Rapids, Michigan, Billie Ruth Hamon-Tullos, Gainesville, Georgia, Archie Lee Jr. (Toni) Tullos, Hoffman Estates, Illinois, and Torri (Theojuana) Tullos, Macomb, Michigan; one brother, James(Sun) Tullos, Prince George, Virginia; one sister, Goldie Featherstone, Los Angeles, California; 13 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great grandchildren.

Archie was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Tullos; daughter, Betty Ann Fisher-Tullos; mother, Minnie Tullos; father, Booker T. Tullos; brothers, Emanuel (Shirley) and Charles Tullos.

The family would like to express a special thank you to Archie’s grandson Cory Hamilton for all your love, prayers, support, kindness and care you provided for your grandfather. He knew you loved him because of your consistency. Also, special thank you to Dr. Rama Mulpuri, Ivan E. Phillips and the Staff of Paradise Funeral Chapel.
