Andrew Aikens

February 20, 1940 — April 14, 2014

Andrew Lee Aikens passed away Monday, April 14, 2014 at the age of 74 years. He was born on February 20, 1940 to the union of Elder Robert and District Missionary Lola Mae Aikens in Lansing, Michigan.
Andrew was a lifelong resident of Lansing, Michigan and was a 1958 graduate of J.W. Sexton High School where he was in the marching band. He was an Alumni of Lansing Community College. Andrew served in the United States Army as a military police officer and with the infantry tank division from 1959 until 1962 when he was honorably discharged. He worked for General Motors for 37 years. He was a voluntary Probation Officer in Ingham County. Andrew loved sports. He was the head coach for the Grace Lutheran team of the church basketball league for seven years and won several championships. He was Michigan State Universitys #1 fan with a Spartan room to prove it. His favorite television show was the Price is Right. Andrew grew up in the Church of God in Christ. In August 2013 Andrew recommitted his life to Christ. He was a member of the Tabernacle of David Worship Center under the leadership of Pastor Larry M. and Lady Lenea Trice Jr. In 1963 he was joined in holy matrimony to the love of his life, Jean Lorraine Howlett. To that union was born three children, Andre Aikens, Robin Aikens and Monique Aikens. He was a devoted husband and father. He also loved his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren,
three god-daughters, Erica, Tarra and Michelle and one god-son Justin Brown. He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife of 51 years, Jean L. Aikens; his son, Andre; daughters, Robin (John) and Monique; grand-children, Ariel, Adrea, Cameron, Joshua, Victoria, JeanNell ,Cullen Andrew, Vaughn, Jyrese, Kimberly and Chris; great grandchildren, Londyn, Angelise, Amarie and Sissy; his brothers, Thomas Aikens and Gerald (Ethel) Aikens both of Detroit, Michigan, Tyroe (Joi) Aikens of Marietta, Georgia; his sisters, Rosemary and Deloris Aikens; three god-daughters Erica, Tarra Ray, and Michelle Freeman; one god-son Justin Brown and a host of nieces, nephews and special lifetime friends.
Andrew was preceded in death by his daughters, Marsha and Jeanell, father, Robert Aikens, mother, Lola Aikens, brothers, Charles (Alfreda) Smith and Joseph Aikens, sister, Tamera Aikens.
