Amir (Lansing) Coats

Amir Roosevelt Coats passed away Wednesday, September 7, 2016 at his residence in Lansing, Michigan. Age 7 months. He was born January 30, 2016 to Mercedes Gates and Martell Coats in Lansing, Michigan.

Amir, affectionately known as Bear was granted his angel wings on Wednesday, September 7, 2016. His final days were spent surrounded by family and friends who Amir had touched in small ways throughout his short, yet memorable life. His life would seem too short to many, but to those who were touched by Amir understand that his quality of life far exceeds his quantity of time in which he lived. Amirs gentle smile could melt any heart of those around him. We believe that each day is a blessing; an opportunity to create lasting memories. Amir could spend hours rocking in his favorite bear chair while cuddling close to those he loved so much. He enjoyed cartoons, music, sleeping, and his beloved Mickey Mouse toy. Amir loved the sound of children playing especially their laughter which would make him smile. He spent everyday with his Mom and Dad. With Amirs passing, we remind others that his life is one to be celebrated. Although we will miss him everyday, Amirs life will continue to be celebrated and he will remain in our hearts forever.

Amir leaves to cherish his memory his loving parents, Mercedes Gates and Martell Coats; grandparents, Marcus and Shanda Johnson-Glynn, and Kenneth Lilly; great-grandmothers, Norma Porter, Mattie Lilly and Josephine Lewis; great-great grandmother, Anna Johnson; aunts, Mara Glynn, Jasmine Gates, Kassie Coats, and Tracy Withers; uncles, Marcus Glynn, Jr., Raekwon Glynn, and Anthony Patterson; great uncles, Charles Porter and Josh Porter; cousins and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Patricia Coats; great-grandfather whom he was named after, Roosevelt Coats, and great-grandfather, Frank J. Lilly.
