Alvin Lee Oglesby, Jr. (Lansing)

December 3, 1987 — July 19, 2021

Mr. Alvin Lee Oglesby, Jr, kind-hearted, good-spirited husband, father, brother, son, and friend left us at the young age of 33, on Monday, July 19, 2021. Born December 3, 1987, in Lansing, Michigan to mother, Gwendolyn J. Donelson and father, Alvin Oglesby, Sr. Alvin resided in Lansing, attended Otto Middle School and Sexton High School, where he made life-long friends.

Alvin was fun-loving, full of life, goofy, and truly believed he was put here to make others laugh and find the humor in life. He was known for not sweating the small stuff. He was popular, non-judgmental, and everybody loved him!

As a point of pride, Alvin always, always made time for family. He married his beautiful girl Olivia, on June 26, 2021, just one short month ago. After the wedding, in his own handwriting, Alvin created the following list:

2021 – My Goals My Goals (triple-underlined) – Alvin
1. Get my credit up
2. Start lawn care/snowplow business
3. Pay off all my credit cards and the bank
4. Go back to school
5. Buy our Dream House
6. Be a better man
7. Work on my attitude
8. Be the Best Husband and Father I can Be
9. Keep my mom Happy Forever
10. Teach my Kids what I wasn’t Taught
11. Start a family Tradition
The family asks that you keep a copy of Alvin’s Goal list, pick one (or more) and complete a goal in his honor.

Alvin loved his mom; he held a special bond with his brothers; he loved his children; he loved his friends. He cherished the times he spent with the kids and always had a treat, candy, or toy for the little ones. In fact, he was affectionately called the “baby whisperer” because he was so good with the kids. His favorite activity was playing games, whether basketball, board games, or card games with the family. He loved watching TV movies with his family and everyone would always have to guess what year the movie hit the theaters.

A consensus among the brothers is that, of the four brothers, Lil’ Alvin was the smooth, cool, and fly one! We, his family and friends, are proud to have known him.

He leaves to cherish his memory, loving wife, Olivia; daughters, Bre’Asia and Baby Ava Leigh of Lansing, Michigan; son, Braylin of Lansing, Michigan; mother, Gwendolyn Donelson Hodo of Merrillville, Indiana; father, Alvin Oglesby, Sr. of Lansing, Michigan; step-father, Melvin Hodo of Merrillville, Indiana; brothers, Ondric of Denver, Colorado, Darnell and Dontrell of Lansing, Michigan; sisters, Marqweisha, Keisha, Taneisha, and Shanteena, all of Lansing, Michigan; nieces, Aniyah, Meeyah, Charlie Rose, and Kahlani Grace; nephews, Carlyle and Jovan; aunts, Anita, Lessie, Erica, Linda of Chicago, Illinois, Patricia, Sonia of Olathe, Kansas, and Carla; uncles, Melvin, Jr. of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Larry of Lansing, Michigan; 43 cousins; mother and father-in-law, Lisa and William Mack; sister-in-law, Alexandra; many other relatives and special friends, including groomsmen Rozier “Big Swole”, Sergio “Sugar Bear”, Joshua, Rashon, and Antoine.

Alvin was preceded in death by maternal grandparents, Mr. Melvin and Mrs. Everlene Donelson; paternal grandmother, Mrs. Florence Oglesby; uncles, Arthur and Carlos “Baby Boy”; and aunts, Mable and Alice.

Special thanks to Antoine Ash, for photo collage and graphics; D Will, video; Alexandra Mack for providing a safe haven and gathering place for family and friends. We are thankful for all of those who have been there for us in our time of need
