Alpheus A. Cooper (Holt)

August 12, 1923 — February 7, 2022

Mr. Alpheus Arlington Cooper passed away peacefully at his home while surrounded by his family on February 7, 2022, at the age of 98. He was born on August 12, 1923, in Raleigh, Ontario Canada. He was 1 of 10 children born to Thomas William and Allie May Cooper.

He was a loving husband to his wife, Erma Cooper of 74 years and through this union became the father to six beautiful children. He was also blessed to be a father-in-law, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather, uncle, and cousin to his family.

Alpheus attended Trinity A.M.E. Church in Lansing, Michigan under the leadership of Pastor Reed and currently under Pastor Martin. He was an awesome Man of Faith who lived his life according to the Word of God. Alpheus was a member of the United States Army from March 1943 and earned his honorable discharge in  January 1946.  He was a dedicated worker for the General Motors Corporation for 60 years before retiring in 2006. His length of service with General Motors Corporation made him one of the longest workers with seniority in the history of the company.

Alpheus had a smile that would touch your heart and lift your spirits whenever he was around. He enjoyed spending time with his family, playing cards (especially Euchre), collecting coins, and reading his Daily Word. Alpheus embodied the meaning of “Kind Soul” displaying kindness in all that he did and to whomever he encountered.

He leaves to cherish his memory, two daughters, Brenda (Harold) Speights and Deborah Cooper; three sons, Clifton (Marita) Cooper, Marc (Clarissa) Cooper, and Stacey (Gracey) Cooper; 13 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Florine Roper; many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
