Obituary for Ray Potter, Jr. (Dimondale)

Deacon Ray Potter, Jr. transitioned to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, August 26, 2018 at his residence in Dimondale, Michigan. He was blessed with 85 years of life. He was born October 6, 1932 to Ray H. Sr. and Bernice Potter in Muskogee, Oklahoma.

Deacon Potter attended primary school in Muskogee, Oklahoma until his family relocated to Lansing, Michigan where he completed his education through the Lansing School District. In 1952, he was drafted to the United States Army where he received a United Nations Service Medal, the Korean Service Ribbon for his time served in the Korean War and the National Defense Service Medal before his honorable discharge in 1954, after which he returned to Lansing, Michigan. In 1962, on a trip to Kansas City, Missouri he met the love of his life, Geraldine Fox. They were united in Holy Matrimony in 1963 and a wonderful union began. He started his career in the automotive industry, working for Story Oldsmobile and Shaheen Chevrolet until he retired. In his retirement years he was employed part-time at Michigan State University.

Deacon Potter was raised in a God fearing home. However, he did not give his life to the Lord until 1977. At which time, he united with New Hope COGIC under the leadership of the late Supt. Willie Wade. During his service for the Lord, he served as a musician, deacon, dedicated layman, and as a personal supporter to his wife, Evangelist Potter in her many traveling engagements.

He was a proud certified Seminole Nation Tribe of Oklahoma Native American. Deacon Potter loved his heritage, his family, his church family, the Detroit Tigers and above all “The MICHIGAN WOLVERINES”. He also had a flare for fashion and classy automobiles.

He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife of 55 years Evangelist Geraldine Potter; sons, Gerald (Lisa), Fred (Penny); daughters, Patricia, Sandra (Michael), Brenda (Tony), Marsha (Johnny); brothers, Lonnie of Riverside, California, Roy Lee (Esther) of Fresno, California, Deacon Potter’s legacy will live on through his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his son, Ray B. Potter, III; parents; sister, Bonnie McPeak Brown.
