Obituary for Lula Jones

Mrs. Lula Bell Jones “Auntie”, was born April 16, 1924 in Marianna, Arkansas to Pumpy Fisher and Callie McCutchen. On Wednesday, September 5 ,2018, after ninety-four blessed years, God called Lula home and said “Well done thy good faithful servant…enter into the joy of thy Lord.”

Lula accepted Christ in her life as a young girl and she never lost her zeal for God. She enjoyed going to church and singing in the choir. These two passions of hers she passed on to her family. She taught her children and grandchildren the importance of God, church membership and serving in ministry.

Lula, lovingly called “Auntie” by family, was a caregiver and a nurturer. She was the rock of her family, a true matriarch. She enjoyed cooking for her family and having family dinners because she knew that was a good time to engage with her children. When she wasn’t caring for her family, she enjoyed fishing, bingo, playing card games, going to the casino and long rides listening to gospel music. Auntie was a teacher who always gave wise counsel. She had a great memory and was a master storyteller. After ninety-four chapters, her story has finally come to an end and it was a great read.

Lula was preceded in death by her husband, James Jones; son, Matthew Smith; two sisters, Estella Pringle, Mary Dell Johnson; three brothers, Ollie Williams, John Fisher, Oliver Gray; and many close relatives and friends.

She leaves to carry on her legacy daughter Priscilla Smith; son, Andrew (Dorothy) Scott; stepson, Isaac Jones, Sr.; six grandchildren, Tard (Fontella), Adrain, Venus Smith, Johnetta, Johnquetta Shelley, Joy Peterson; eight great-grandchildren, Ashton (Kaylie) McMillan, Precious, Elliot, Sydney Smith, Trinton, Trinity Choyce, Jacob, Journee Shelley; cousins, Martha B. Hardy, Roy Davis; a host of nieces, nephews, twenty-three grandchildren, great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends, including special nephews, John and James Lewis, special granddaughter, Carla Jones, great-niece, Valerie McClain and her beloved dog, Pepper.

God made a wonderful mother, a mother who never grows old. He made her smile of the sunshine and He molded her heart of pure gold. In her eyes He placed bright shining stars,
in her cheeks fair roses you see. God made a wonderful mother, and He gave that dear mother to me.
